On April 28th, We Danced, Downward Dogged & Flipped Social Media!
On April 28th, MEDIAGIRLS held our “Get Strong Inside & Out” event at the Brookline Teen Center to share some of our programming with the community, and raise funds to bring our workshops to more girls in underserved communities. From a heartfelt panel discussion and group discussion on the influence of Instagram and Snapchat, to centering yoga and a high-energy dance party, it was definitely a day of great vibes! We met our fundraising goals and hope we inspired our guests. We know they lifted our spirits with their dreams and goals of flipping social-media culture to make it more positive for all of us.
Executive Director Michelle Cove welcomes everyone!
Our Mentor Angela held down the Insta takeover, while Bethany sat on our social-media panel.
We started the event getting centered and focused with martial-arts infused yoga.
Yoga instructor Alexandra Fuller of Ground Level focused on “trying” and “presence” rather than perfection.
Often the best moments when we come together. No phone.
Our moderator and confidence-booster Sarah Gaines got inspired by our participants!
A #realmediagirl uses her social media to lift up other girls & women. We can all do this!
Our staffer Amanda shares with girls her love for media where we see strong women of color being represented.
Guests start the event by hearing from other girls like them in our trailer.
Our staff and volunteers talk about who most inspires them on social media, and how their own habits have evolved.
We broke into smaller groups to talk about the pros and cons of social media today.
An amazing event of positive vibes and feel-good energy!
Everyone held their breath during the raffle, especially for the Ariana Grande concert tix!
