MEDIAGIRLS @ Brimmer and May: Thinking about Effective Social-Media Campaigns

This week, we learned about viral social media campaigns and what makes a campaign successful. We talked about the unwritten “rules” of social media and the pressure to conform to these rules. Students brought up that they felt pressured to edit photos, but they also got called out by classmates on social media for having photos that were “too edited.” Students also felt that they could not win in terms of posting photos that either showed too much skin or not enough skin. After breaking down these rules, students suggested ideas for their own MEDIAGIRLS social media campaign. Students discussed posting photos of them eating, wearing something crazy to school, and doing things they are passionate about.
