April 19th Virtual Talk: Help Girls Make Healthy Social-Media Choices in this Unsettling Time

“Is it bad that my daughter grabs her iPhone first thing in the morning and is then on for hours?”

“How do I know my girls are not absorbing scary headlines while they’re scrolling on social media?

“What is my daughter supposed to talk about with her friends when they are all just bored and isolated?”

These are just some of the excellent questions that we’ve been receiving from parents in the last weeks. Instead of answering them one by one, we decided it would make more sense and do more good to host a free one-hour parent talk on Sunday, April 19th at 7:30 pm.

Girls were obsessed with social media way before the Corona Virus kicked in, spending an average of 3+ hours a day on Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and TikTok; we can’t even imagine how much more time they are spending on these platforms now. In some ways, it’s wonderful (social connection, community game playing, new potential activities) and in other ways, it’s worrisome (adding to the confusion about facts, feeling left out, being falsely convinced peers are handling this better). Come join Executive Director of MEDIAGIRLS Michelle Cove, as she shares best practices, conversation-starters, and tips while doling out plenty of empathy (hey, she has a 15-year-old girl at home).
