We’re returning to the Brookline Teen Center next month with MEDIAGIRLS Part 1! In this empowering and fun program for 6th-8th grade girls, trained female college mentors teach participants to think critically about how we are all influenced by the media. Girls will discuss and critique music videos, ads, and apps like Instagram and Snapchat, and learn to challenge undermining messages sent to girls. They’ll engage in activities to define their self-worth; make new local friends, and help transform the culture by posting inspiring content for girls using social media.
Classes are from 3:30 PM to 5 PM, every Wed. from October 10 to Dec. 5 (no class Thanksgiving).
What past participants have said:
“I love the deep talks we have, and everyone is so respectful of each other!”
“My favorite part of the program was understanding and grading music videos with our own report cards.”
“We not only discuss sexist media, were doing something to fix it. We’re actually changing the way girls use social media.”
“I love that I can express my opinions without feeling weird or judged. We have really good discussions.”
“I feel like I’m making real change in the world! I’m not just talking about it or coming up with ideas.”
“I feel like I have a new group of sisters because of this program. We look out for each other!”
